A Day of Smoothies

Don’t call it a juice cleanse.

First things first let’s clear the air. Yes we make and live in active wear and love to feel healthy. No we do not just drink smoothies all day, nor do we necessarily encourage this sort of devotion.  While there’s nothing quite as refreshing after a good workout as an icy, nutrient-dense blend to give your body a little boost, we also love to have our cheese and eat it too. #balance.

But for one day we wanted to celebrate our Vitamix in all of its glory and whip up a batch of smoothies that will take you from day to night and even to nightlife (don’t worry tequila, we’d never forget you). Because some days cooking an actual meal feels impossible – especially in July when it’s upwards of 90 degrees in your kitchen.  Here are a selection of some of our favorites – enjoy!

BREAKFAST

The Mint Chip – our own recipe.

1 serving

¼ avocado

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1 generous handful spinach

1 handful fresh mint

2 dates (preferably medjool)

1 cup ice

1 handful cacao nibs

Blend. We recommend blending everything except the cacao nibs first, and to add them at the end for a couple pulses before serving. This helps maintain the fresh, bright green color from the spinach and mint.

LUNCH

Cinnamon Tahini Protein Smoothie – from Nutrition Stripped.

1 serving

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1 scoop vanilla protein powder (we like xxx?)

½ to 1 frozen banana

1 tablespoon of tahini

2 tablespoons of chia seeds

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup ice

Blend and serve!

DINNER

Savory Shake – from Goop.

1 serving.

1 cup bone marrow broth (chicken or vegetable stock works for this too)

1 avocado

1 tablespoon miso

a pinch of salt

½ cup unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk.

Blend and serve! We recommend warming it over low heat after blending for optimal flavor. This one is great for a detox.

DRINKS

Picante Green – Adapted from The Greenhouse Cookbook

 2 servings

2 cups coconut water

½ cup pineapple (frozen is best)

2 teaspoons fresh cilantro

2 limes, juiced

Pinch of ground cayenne pepper

3 ounces of tequila (or two shots)

1 cup ice

Blend and serve with a slice of pineapple on the rim.
